Q: Why do Chrysler Sebring convertibles have such HORRIBLE resale value?
I’m looking for a used convertible to tool around in this spring and summer. One that keeps showing up is the Sebring. Now, granted, it looks like it’s for little old ladies, but why do these cars retain so little of their original value? They seem exceptionally cheap.

A: Chrysler has been plagued with transmission problems on the sebring as well as engine problems,and that combined with other things as well as market value drives the price of them down a lot,the sebring is a good looking car,but it has its share of problems,i seen one the other day or sale for 2 grand ,but it needed a top along with a lot of other work done on it,the cost to repair it would have been more than it was worth,Chrysler products loose their re-sale value really bad because of past mistakes,good luck.

A: Agree with Ellie. It’s impossible to tell how reliable a rental will be, as you have no idea how its been treated. However, when I get a rental, I thrash it about like there is no tomorrow, because it’s not mine.

Q: Are Chrysler Sebring convertibles worth the flooding when it rains?
I just read up on the consistent flooding that happens when it rains. I was thinking of getting one from ‘98. So, will it be worth it, or am I better off with a Honda Civic or something? Thanks a lot.

Look at the Mazda Miata MX-5 if you want a real convertible.

If it needs 4 seats and to be ‘American’, the Mustang is still a much better choice.

Q: What Would Cause Water In A Chrysler Sebring Convertible?
I have a Chrysler Sebring Convertible and every time there is a a heavy rain, about a gallon of water accumulates on the drivers side floorboard. The top is in excellent condition and this is the only place that water leaks into.

Any ideas as to what’s up?

A: Check the drain outlets in the floor. if they are clogged, water will build-up in the car instead of draining out. There should be a on the right and left, just in front of the rear wheels. Good luck.

Hi, I will try to give as many details as possible about my 1996 Chrysler Sebring JXI convertible.

It has about 100,000 miles on it. One day, the “service engine soon” area near the speedometer lit up. I planned to service the engine, but the next day, the car would not start (battery completely shot- no noise when I turned the key in the ignition).

I jumped it and it was back to normal- I ran it long enough, I thought, to make sure it kept the charge. I also got the battery checked out at a mechanic, and the mechanic said it was fine. The car was running ok for a few days and the oil icon was lit up (I planned to change the oil as a result). Now, it won’t start again and I am planning to jump it when I get back home from work. But I am wondering… what exactly is the problem with the car? Is it the battery? Is it something else?

A: It’s really hard to get the battery out of your Sebring to test it.Maybe you already know that the left front wheel is in the way of an access panel that is screwed in to the fender liner.Then the battery is bolted in a tight spot making it a serious effort to remove.The battery needs to come out of there for testing,but by the sound of it.it’s probably 95% worn out anyway from being discharged too much.The alternator should be verified too.

Q: Is it possible to swap for a bigger engine in my chrysler sebring convertible?
I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible i was wondering if it is possible to put in a bigger engine in the Sebring weather it be a bigger v6 or even a v8 engine this is a question that i have been trying tofind an answer to but just can’t seem to find.

A: Anything is possible if you have the money or know how. Short answer is no unless you own a race shop wherer you can make a race car. V8 will never fit. it is a FWD car. You won’t get any V8 to work with it. V6 would have to be a newer one to be more powerful and the transmission would have to match it. If you are able to build a car from scratch then you probably could. Otherwise, no chance.

Q: What options do I have to change out the radio on a 2008 chrysler sebring convertible?
On a 2008 chrysler sebring convertible what options do I have for the radio. The dealer said I could buy the u-connect for $1,000 but he said it would be cheaper just to get a bluetooth system put in. What double din in dash system would be compatible?

A: Your options would be getting a built in Navigation System which can put in through the Radio and would defiantly have Blu-Tooth, whitch would be around $1500-2500. The new, 2009 model that is online on the link that I have. If I get it, I am getting it in September. I am deciding between a couple different cars right now.

A: It is available both ways. Certain trim levels may only be available with the cloth top. For instance, if there’s a 4cyl and a v6, you maybe can only get the hardtop with the V6.

A: you might try renting one for a weekend to see if you like it long term….test drives are fine,but you cant tell how the cars gonna be day to day…buying a used one would be a better choice than new….they depreciate alot in value when you drive them off the new car lot…

A: you would want to make sure it doesn’t use oil and that there isn’t any problems engine wise then check out all the seals. like the seal around the windshield and the door windows thats very important . and if it doesn’t need any of those and has good tires, springs and shocks you’ll have a good deal in that car when you buy it

A: The Sebring is the modern clunker. No model from the past and today is even fairly good. Just run away from it. Buy a BMW 328i or a Volvo C70 T5.

Add: Ford Flex, Chevy SSR, Grand Caravan (and all its offshoots), PT Cruiser, all Geos, Audi Q7, Armada/QX56, new TSX, Civic coupe/TSX sedan, Honda Element, Acura MDX and RDX, new Passat, Cayenne, the new shape of Volvos (as of 2002ish).

I could go on. I hate what GM has done to the new cars and most manufacturers seem to be messing with the good things. Buying used never felt like a good idea to me but it has also never looked more attractive (literally).

Q: Need advice on buying a used 96 sebring convertible. A friend is selling it for $2500.?
it looks good inside and out. however neither she nor i know much about cars and i dont know what to look for when buying a used car. I plan on paying a mechanic to take a look at it, but was wondering if there are some tips or tricks i can use myself. I think she said the shocks or struts are bad ….what is that ? how much does that cost to fix ? thank you so much.

A: shocks and struts easily 500 bucks parts and labor, you should, as you’ve stated, have it looked over not by a mechanic, but by an ase certified technician, most shops can do a pre purchase inspection for an hours labor, so you might be out 70-100 dollars but at least you will have a piece of mind one way or another if it’s a good deal or not, make sure they compression check the engine and check the brakes in their inspection, good luck

A: Sounds like you’re vehicle has bad ground issues and the ignition coil or spark plug wires could be leaking but to me it sounds like a bad ground issue.
Simple test is if when anything that is used in the vehicle is turned on can you hear that same exact sound or are some devices causing a less noise that you’re not hearing.Try taking the speaker out and then try the different devices in car to see if everything seems to be affecting it if so then for sure especially if vehicles engine is off and the speaker does that then there is a bad ground.
Try taking the stereo out and looking the wiring over especially if it’s not a factory unit and is aftermarket etc and has been added bec more then likely the stereo itself either the speaker or stereo has a improper wiring connection or a faulty ground.
I’d be over hauling that vehicles starter , alternator , battery , engine block ground and all grounds , plus any plug in connectors connectors and the basic stuff you need is a small set of wire brushes or fine sandpaper or file etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way there are devices out there that help to filter the ground system or stereo system that are quite cheap to buy too but it sounds like you’ve bad connections.

A: According to Chrysler, and I’m not making this up, Based on people who take supper care of their car/truck, and those who never raise the hood until the car/truck just quits.The average life expectancy of a car is 50,000 miles. The life expectancy of a truck is 100,000 miles. The answer to you’re question is everything and nothing. And more importantly, how well was the car taken care of?And if memory serves me, the Sebring convertible was built under Chrysler name, but was built by Mitsubishi. Not a bad company, but a bitch to work on. If it’s a 3 litter, it has a good motor but has oil leak problems. It also has valve guide seals and water pump problems. Be prepared to pony up some money to keep this baby going.

A: You’re going to have nothing but trouble if you try a do it yourself repair, like constant leaks, or the plastic popping out on the highway. Not sure of wear you live, but I would get a price from either an automotive glass shop, or convertible top business as this is a specialized area of repair. Good luck

A: sounds like alot for a 9 year old car and how many miles are on it.if you buy it the first thing i would do is have the tranny fluid changed.the engines are not that powerfull and make sure its not burning oil,drive it a good distance and make sure when its good and warm its not smoking out the tail pipe.have someone stand behind the car rev it up a couple of times and see if its burning oil if it is walk away.i see alot of those cars burning oil when people are driving around.

It has come off only around the bottom of the window.

A: Try butyl rubber caulk or clear silicone instead of “yellow death” – (trade nickname for 3m super weatherstrip adhesive).

The low beams work great and so do the fog lights. There used to be a click when you turned them on now you have to hold the lever in for them to stay on.

A: The Original Material for the 1996-2004 Chrysler Sebring is the Sailcloth Vinyl, Sonnedecke (thicker cloth), or Stayfast (cloth)

A: Window adhesive is available from auto supply places or CR Laurence. If you are just trying to seal it, GOOP products, especially GOOP Marine will provide a clear strong seal that is fairly UV resistant.

Q: Are 1996-1999 Sebring convertibles really that unreliable?
I am looking to buy one, and there are hundreds and hundreds for sale with well over 100, 000 miles. That would seem to me to be the mark of a reliable car. But Consumer Reports, among other sources, says they’re really unreliable. So, are they good cars or not? Are some years better than others? (Don’t comment on 2000-2007 or Sebrings with Chrysler’s 2.7L engine. I know the 2.7 is sludge-prone, so I would never buy one with that engine.)

A: The fact is that those cars have probably been in the shop more than they have been in the owner’s garage, and they were traded as soon as the owner could afford a new car.

Here’s a tip: never buy a car off a dealer’s lot of a different brand.
Example: a used ford for sale at a Chevy dealer. WHY?
because people usually don’t change brands if they are happy with the car they are driving.

Q: Chrysler Sebring Convertibles…How are they?
My little Mercury Capri died for good…loved the car. Now looking for a new one that is in my price range of under $2500 with under 100,000 miles on it. A: Sebrings are typically not very dependable and are often found at the bottom of owner satisfaction and reliability ratings.

Check out an older Ford Mustang or Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible. And make sure you pay to get it inspected before you buy it. It typically costs about $80 and will prevent you from buying someone else’s problems.

Q: can a oem infinity gold amplifer from a 02 Sebring convertible work in a 01 coupe?
A friend of mine had water in his 01 Chrysler Sebring LXI coupe and that fried the amp- He can get a amp from a 02 Sebring convertible. Will it work in his coupe or is the circiut board different?

A: NO, it will probably not work.

The Sebring convertible and Sebring hardtop are 2 completely different vehicles. The hardtop is Mitsubishi, and has a Mitsubishi amplifier in it. The Convertible is Chrysler, and has a Chrysler amplifier in it.

The plugs will likely be different preventing him from being able to plug it in.

The hardtop Sebring and Dodge Stratus (2-door Stratus only) used the same amplifier from 2001 to 2005, it was part number MR472783, and may have been used in some Mitsubishi vehicles as well.

Any ideas as to what’s up?

A: you can’t turn it off. it has to be fixed and the light will go out. you will have to go to the dealer. most likely it had nothing to do with your a/c work unless they were working inside the car on the evaporator or other under dash repair. keep in mind that when the light is on the airbags will not deploy in an accident, and if the light is on because a wire is shorted the bags could deploy on their own wit hour a reason. get it fixed asap.

A: No it will not work. The sebring coupe is a completely different body style than the sebring convertible.

I have a 99 Sebring Convertible. After rain last weekend, my car filled with water. Here’s the catch the seats are dry its all on the floor. I can hear water inside the car but cannot figure out where it is coming from. Any suggestions?

A: First place I would check would be under your dash. If there is a leak from your windshield and leaking under your dash, it won’t be long before it causes a short and possible fire.

If you find no moisture, pull your back seat out to see if any of the carpet under the seat is wet. You want to rule out the rear window.

Next, check around the bottom of the doors for wetness. Usually these parts are raised somewhat higher than the floor. If it was coming in by leaking down into the door and then into the car, the top of the carpet at that spot will be wet. If the car wasn’t flooded, the other high spots near the doors and windows will be dry.

I don’t know how they build them now, but used to be there were drain holes in the bottom of the door for water to drain out. If they ever plugged up and retained the water – MAJOR RUST, and wet carpets.

A: You should be fine… With the top down, Chrysler proudly touts that you could still fit 2 golf bags in the trunk… 4 with the top up. I guess you could equate that to a large suitcase with several smaller ones around it with the top down – or a bunch of medium ones.

Will you be driving around often with ALL of your luggage in the trunk??? Leave the junk at the hotel then put the top down…

A: not bad. since you are young, you are likely to get into an accident though and the convertible is not safe if you somehow flip it (this happens – i remember several girls in high school who flipped thier cars).

G35 – is a sedan (the coupe is a G37), and is not available as a convertible in any case.

You’ll have to go a little higher, you can get a New Beetle convertible for about 23K, the VW Eos is more, but has the folding hard top. You can also probably get a Mustang V6/stick in the low 20’s too.

A: It really depends on your budget. If thats is a concern, the mazda is the way to go, but if its not, I like the Boxter S. Even though some of the cars you listed may beat it on paper, the Porsche is a tough competitor, and probably better engineered, and more reliable.
P.S. it looks pretty bad a$$ too.

Foreign cars the best cars and most reliable. I don’t know why your parents said you can’t get a foreign car.
Ford owns 33.5% of Mazda, but Mazda’s are still Mazda’s and still foreign cars. They do not use any Ford made or designed parts.

The only other 4 seat American convertible besides the Mustang are the Chrysler Sebring and Pontiac G6.

A: Well, the MX-5 is the Miata. It’s just the name of the car. Your models or time levels are Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

First, the Mazda Miata is the best selling 2 seat roadster of all time, of any brand of car ever made….ever. A few reasons for this are that they are fun to drive, they are engineered with the DRIVER in mind, not how it looks, but rather how it functions and how it makes driving a fun experience.

There are more Mazda’s being road raced on any given weekend than any other make of car in the world. Go drive one at your local Mazda dealer and you wont be disappointed!

Overall, is this a great car?

A: It depends on what kind of driving you’re going to be doing.
If its mostly city, then you should be fine in a Miata; its low center of gravity will prevent it from rolling (if you are really concerned about this you can get a roll bar added on to protect your head in a crash) its superb handling will help you avoid accidents and its overall reliability means that you won’t get stuck far away from your home.
If, on the other hand you often go on the highway, a Miata might not be your best bet. For one, its a very small car. Many big SUV’s/18 wheelers could easily crush it if you got in an accident going 65+ mph. More importantly, the car’s small size (and particularly its low height) make it very difficult to be seen by other cars, and in highway conditions there’s a possibility that somebody could try a maneuver and slam into the car simply because he did not notice it.

Problems: I’ve had one for about two years now, and it has about 120k miles. So far, other than the clutch occasionally slipping, the car is running perfectly. The battery had to be replaced a couple of months ago, but only because it got corrupted by a new anti-theft device that drained power.

Overall, its a great car.
Its cheap -you can probably get a used one in great condition for under 8,000, or under 4,000 if you look hard enough/don’t care about high mileages.
It handles well, better than most sports cars – its low weight makes it extremely easy to control.
Its a Mazda, so its gonna be pretty reliable.
Its a convertible, so its fun to drive.

A: The Chrysler Sebring made the top of the list for cars to avoid every year it was made. Not this one!
The 2001 Camaro is most likely in need of new plugs. Chevrolet made them with 100K plugs for a reason. It is almost impossible to change them, it is a service nightmare! Not this one!
The Miata is in need of maintenance also, but it is easy to work on. It needs a timing belt, front seals, water pump and maybe a fan relay switch. How ever the engine has special oilers in it to increase ring life and should run an easy 300K miles with out needing major work if you take care of it. Insurance will most likely be lower on it then the Camaro.
Get the Miata.

It is a 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata 2D Convertible.

I pretty much need it to go to and from work here in chicago. But I dont want to deal with something that will have many problems, I just got through my 94 toyota tercel.

A: Mazda Miata are VERY dependable and nearly trouble free cars. Many older ones have 200,000 miles on them with routine maint. and a cam belt every 60,000 miles. They also are very economical. Low miles and a decent price, how can you go wrong. My son has a 1991 and loves it. I’m getting too old to easily get in and out of it, but it is great fun to drive. They are great cars and the only downside I can think of is only 2 seats and very little trunk space.

If you consider buying it make sure you run a “Carfax” on it and maybe take it to a mechanic and spend 100 bucks having it looked over. If the miles are correct and no flood or accident damage I think it is a fair price.

However, I called Geico and Nationwide and they each quoted me around 105-120 full torte. Am I missing something here? Which ones do I believe? Are Geico and Nationwide leaving details out and when I actually buy the quote I’m going to get charged moe than I thought? I watn to make sure I can afford this insurance along with the car payment and my student loans. It’s going to be very tight if I have to wind up paying 167 a month for insurance.

A: Easy – they are not quoting the same coverages. Geico is probably giving you state minimum ( I assume you are in PA because of the tort option), which is $15,000 per person, $30,000 per accident and $5,000 property damage. Which is NOT sufficient. You know what your car is worth, imagine if you hit a car worth more than $5000. You’d be screwed. You should go with the company you feel comfortable with. For me, it would be State Farm. Also, you should ask what the rest of the coverages are, so that you can get an apples for apples quote from all places – as that is the only true way to compare based on price.

I really like the Mazda Miata MX-5. It’s within my price range as well. Only problem is that it’s a one seater. Now, I don’t drive much..I’m actually very scared to be out on the road so I don’t travel long distances. A: Why would you want to use a car to attract women? If that’s the only reason they’ll talk to you, why would you even wanna be associated with someone that shallow & airheaded? It shouldn’t matter whether you drive a sports car or a Scooby Doo van- if a girl doesn’t like you for you, then you don’t need her.

A: Mazda Mx-5 is safe and reliable. The possibility of flipping the vehicle is slim to none given it’s low squat on pavement. Stock equipped cars are regular fixtures with few modifications on the weekend to race competitively throughout the country. This would suggest real world experience underscores safety and reliability of the car. In fact, Mazda has sponsored races for the Mx5 as well as the Rx8. Most car manufacturers will put their vehicles to the test in a racing atmosphere to debug and fix any niggling weaknesses that hamper perfection.
If you look on UTube the Mx5 has been tested on the vaunted Nuremburg circle in Germany, the same can be said for the Mazdaspeed 3. All manufacturers of every stripe honor and respect the Nuremburg ring, as a manufacturer you bring your “A” game or stay home. On the safety tip, Mazda Mx5 is as safe as one could hope for in a small convertible.
The biggest problem you may find in buying one is driving it in the snow and ice. Its strong suit is not wintry weather. It can be loaded with sand bags and snow tires, but, that is not what the car was designed to do. The original Mazda Miata was first built in 1989. If you ask anyone who owns a Miata for a period of time, they will tell you it is the stuff of legends ad nauseum because they are so pleased with their reliability and it continues to be fun to drive. For what it is worth, I have yet to see a Miata on the side of the road.
I have flirted with getting a Mx-5, I have a Mazda3 for practical reasons; not only is it a great car after building more than 800,000 copies for more than 20 years, it is the gold standard for all mass produced convertibles at any price point.
It stands to reason, that Mazda has been building the car long enough and has invested millions of dollars in research and development that directly benefits your decision to purchase a Mazda Mx5. And to your last question, how many miles does the car last, I am informed it is a 20 year car. A properly maintained Mx5 should last 200-250,000 miles before a major rebuild. Cheers.

A: My son has a 1989 Miata with 200,000+ miles on it and it still runs great. It’s no more dangerous than any other car so long as you don’t plan on flipping it over — very rare –
There are thousands of aftermarket parts and add-ons available plus dozens of clubs (which are great fun and informative). Try to purchase one with a good top — they only last about seven years before they begin to fray around the edges and leak. A replacement unit costs about $600. Rear brakes will require caliper replacement when the pads are worn out ($68.00 per caliper from Autozone) and if the clutch needs replacing go ahead and buy a high performance unit. It only costs about $50 more and will double the lifespan. If you buy a Miata with no maintenance records go ahead and have the timing belt replaced. Miata engines and drive systems are as tough as they come, get a solid 34 mpg and require only minimum upkeep. If you don’t have to haul lots of luggage, (the trunk gets crowded with a shoebox in it), and passengers then you will love this car.

I test drove a new MX-5 (Miata) hardtop today. It was fun… not as fast as I might like but still a fun experience. They wanted $31K but I can get it elsewhere for around $28K or so. What are some reasonably priced alternatives? I wouldn’t mind going used if a vehicle is reliable. I’m open to anything as long as the top comes off! Ideas?

A: I’m not sure what year model would be in your price range, but if you like the size, looks and handling of the MX5 but want a little more power, check out the Honda S2000!!! It has an ultra high revving VTEC motor, and superb handling, and a great reliability rating.
The Saturn Sky redline and Pontiac Solstice GXP are both convertibles and fast, but personally I would rather get something foreign and more reliable.

A: Solara has both hard top and convertibles–on this final 2008 year. In 2009 Solara will be discontinued, and replaced by the Toyota Venza–a station wagon. (Toyota never understood how good solara was–and they mal formed it since its exquisite original classic 1999 body form…but then…most Toyota are very ugly indeed. Other than quality..they have no sense of the American mind, and desire for neat lines and not droopy teardrop Godzilla headlamps…Maybe they will learn how to make a nice looking car. Honda has!

A: iI have a 01 Solara convertible. It drives great in the winter. It is pretty heavy and front wheel drive so it goes through the snow, rain and sleet great. I also have a 03 Miata, and it sits and spins in the snow

Its really not a good idea to run your rag top through an automatic car wash. It cost 2400 bucks to replace that top plus labor. I know from experience. And you are not supposed to use any strong or commercial soap on the top as used in a car wash as it dilutes & washes away the scotch guard that is impregnated into the top. Read your owners manual.

A: It is about 3X more expensive to repair than an American car, its performance is ok, but its basically just a rebadged Camry so for its class its not that good, and there are tons of complaints about how Toyotas customer service and how they dont help you at all. Instead get a Volkswagen Eos or Pontiac G6 convertible. The G6 is esentially the same car as the Solara, but its much cheaper to fix and has a better engine. The Eos is the best, but is even more expensive to fix than a Solora, if it breaks down.

Q: What are your opinions on a Toyota Solara Convertible?

A: I have a 1999 Solara SLE V6. Best car I ever owned. Solara’s were discontinued they say, because Toyota was losing Lexus business to them. They are very close to a Lexus. So Toyota stopped making them and instead decided to just produce the usual cheesy Camry’s and Corollas. Toyota seems to think people are stupid. I love my Solara but I will NEVER buy the Toyota junk. and now that I know they have ripped me off by discontinuing my model, I will boycott Lexus. I don’t want them anyway, people were killed in them from the accelerators, and they are now all plastic too, just like the cheesy Camry’s and Corollas. But the Solara, yea that’s the last good Toyota left, and now that they are discontinued, they may be collectible some day. Certainly the normal cheesy Camry’s and Corolla’s will not be. Their future lies in the junk yard.

A: thats pretty high dollars for a car with 115,000 miles but then again it is a toyota so it will last you along time if you baby and take care of the car and i wouldnt recommend getting a convertible unless its hardtop because someone car rip through it or it gets old and crunchy either way you would be paying for another soft top

A: The redesign was in 2004. The oldest solara convertible you can get is 2000. So, you’ll be looking for 2000-2003 convertible (2002 and 2003 are designed slightly differently than 2000 and 2001.)

Q: Should I get a used Toyota Solara or Nissan Maxima?
I can’t afford a new car right now, so I would like a cheaper used car. I really like the Toyota Solara (not the convertible) and the Nissan Maixima and have found some with low miles and great prices. Which is a better choice?

A: do you need 2 or 4 doors ?? the maxima is a larger car . the Solara comes in 4 cyl and v6 trim levels so do you need power or better gas mileage. the v6 in the 02 -08 Maxima is a very powerful engine .
i agree with others the Solara is more sporty looking .

Q: 2001 Toyota Solara Convertible Top Rear Window Stuck?
I bought a 2001 Toyota Solara Convertible a few months ago (used, as is – no problems so far) and I yesterday when I went to put the top back up, the rear window got stuck and tore from the top. I tried putting some epoxy glue on it but the glass was too heavy, it didn’t work. I was out of town and didn’t want any rain coming in so I taped it up with some Gorilla tape and that held it up for the majority of the 10 hour car ride home. My question is how do I go about getting this fixed. I do not believe I should need a new top or new window, as they are both in good condition. Is there a stronger glue I can try or who do I take it to (what type of auto repair shop, glass or upholstery or someone else) get it fixed? Also, about how much should this cost? Thanks for the help.

A: Let’s lay some groundwork here. Your top and window unit are two separate parts. If you removed the top, the entire window unit would remain on the car. The window unit consists of the glass and the material surrounding it that enables one to attach the glass to the car.
You say that your window got “Stuck” and “Tore” from the top. Was the glass unit in good shape? If so, the first step is to find out why it got stuck. Did it really “Tear” the material? If so, you need a window unit and some frame repairs.
Was the glass coming loose from the cloth and jammed somewhere? That is not unusual and is addressed by replacing the window unit, about $225.00, in the box at info@topgunwon.com. Re-gluing it almost never works. When it does, it seldom lasts long. If you insist on trying it, this is how you do it. Remove the window unit from the car. On a workbench, position the glass in the cloth pocket of the window unit. Fill the pocket with the same urethane adhesive that is used to glue windows to cars. Get it from a glass shop. Clamp the material to the glass. How you do that is your call. You will probably have to be inventive, Let it set for 36 hours. Reinstall the window unit.

I ran a car history report and it was clear and I’ve asked the seller a bunch of questions and he seems nice and answered all my questions. But the car is 1,300 miles away and I’d have to buy it without seeing it. I really want the car, but I am extremely nervous about purchasing it this way! Do you think I should go ahead and buy it???

A: Yeah, never a good idea to buy a car without test driving it. I’m sure the guy is nice, but you’re not gonna know if the brakes suck or if the windows don’t work or open or if there’s rust or any of that stuff unless you check it out yourself.

A: I personally think it’s really fun to find a cool used car with money you saved yourself. When I was 16 I had saved up about $2000 and I found a really nice 1990 Ford Mustang GT for that price. I had so much pride since I saved up for the car myself.

A: Go to any Toyota dealer. All Toyota dealers sell pre-owned & Toyota certified pre-owned cars. Solara convertibles are hard to come by. Therefore, there may be a premium on getting one. The owners manual warns do not use water resistant sealer on the convertible top. Why? Should the water just soak into the fabric and not bead up? 2004 Solara

A: If it is a canvas-type fabric top, I would recommend using 303 Aerospace Protectant. It’s available at many marine outlets and pool/spa stores. It’s a great product for rubber, vinyl and outdoor fabrics.

A: For a girl, both cars are fine. But I’m sure you can find nicer cars in your price range. By my observation you live in Georgia so Ive found some luxury cars that you might be paying the same for as the Mustang or the Solara. What is the best first car for me?

I have narrowed down my selection to a couple used vehicles and a couple new vehicles. I love sporty convertibles but will not get one unless it comes with a power retractable hardtop. I live in washington otherwise known as the rain state so that is why I want the hardtop. Power is not important to me. I want a reliable vehicle that gets above average gas mileage.
I have chosen a used 2006 Lexus SC430 used for $22,000.00 with 9,000 miles, a used 2006 Lexus RX400h hybrid $ 24,500.00 with 15,000 miles, a used 2006 toyota highlander hybrid $26,000.00 with 22,000 miles on it, for new I have a toyota solara coupe, Volkswagen eos, or the ford escape hybrid.
I love the idea of a hybrid but love a convertible hardtop. I have saved my money since I was 6 and I am now 15 so this car is important to me. Any opinions

A: hybrids are very good vehicles
and convertibles are pretty much summer cars
when buying a car…. u have to consider every aspect
gas prices are goin up
and convertibles arent too good to drive in the winter
but it depends on where ur living
honestly i would go with the highlander hybrid
theyre good suvs and reliable, also parts are cheap

A: If owning just one car, I would suggest a 4 passenger model. A two seater may seem sportier, but not as good a choice, especially with a family.
I have owned the Chrysler Sebring Conv., and liked it very much. The Toyota Solara impresses me as does the Mustang.

i plan on getting a hyundai tiburon gt, or maybe a later years honda prelude. a newish toyota solara maybe.
i’d like to know what any of you guys might do to them, and step-by-step, preferably. what you would change to improve it, preferences on different makes of parts, all of that stuff.

any other cars that could go well under tuning would be good, also…my parents car standards are somewhat strict. i’ll give you the general idea.
-no convertible roof.
-no mustangs, camaros, trans ams, etc. (nothing too “sporty”…i don’t know why they’re considering a tiburon.)
-no luxury cars (bmw, lexus, cadillac, etc.)
-used and within $10,500.
-airbags on front and passenger seats
you get the idea.

A: I could tell you everything I know about tuning up cars… How long have you got?

To a Hyundai Tiburon, or any other front wheel drive car for that matter, the thing you need to worry about most to achieve the best performance is traction – you can hot up the engine all you want, but you still won’t be able to accelerate much quicker than a standard car, because the harder you try to accelerate in a normal FWD car, the less grip you have to do so.

I would start with a good aftermarket limited slip differential centre. Then I would do some serious upgrading to the suspension (customised coilovers set up to your car, replacement of all rubber bushes wth polyurethane at the very least, even better is custom chrome-moly suspension arms with heim joint ends, thicker anti-roll bars, ‘track’ wheel alignment setup) then some lightweght forged magnesium wheels with fat and sticky tyres. Then big brakes and heavy-duty clutch upgrades, After that get into some serious weight reduction (carbon fibre body panelling, lexan windows, removal of un-necessary interior {incl. air-con and stereo} and sound deadening, replace front seats wth light weight race buckets, things like that).

Once all that is done, then go stupid with the engine. A complete build-up with much stronger componentry than stock to handle all the extra loads you’ll be putting through it after you turbo and nitrous the motor. You’ll probably also have to get an aftermarket gearset for your gearbox to cope with all the power.

You’ll be getting the 2.7 litre V6 right? The turbo off a Nissan RB25DETT should do you just fine for starters – with custom manifolding and supporting ancillaries you should be able to see 175-190 kW at the wheels out of the engine before you nitro it. With a bigger turbo and a properly set up nitrous kit, 300-325 reliable kWatw is fairly easily attainable. You just need lots of cash to pay for every thing, and a good workshop and engine tuner.
